Name: Kevin Lindley

Position: Bass Trombone

Age: 49

How you started banding:

I began my musical career as a bugler in the 1st Ruddington Scout Band at the age of 11 in 1969. Taking up the trumpet I played with the West Bridgford School Orchestra joining Junior Leaders Regiment: Royal Armoured Corps in 1974, taking up trombone in 1975

Best ever moment:

I was the 'front/centre' trombone player at Earls Court 1991, leading 17 cavalry bands into the arena in front of the Royal family, the media and not forgetting proud family and friends. This being the Cavalry's final performance before being amalgamated.

Worst ever moment:

Same gig (Earls Court), waiting to play jousting knights into the arena, dressed in a tricorn hat with an over large ostrich feather, purple and yellow 'hussar's' jacket, 3/4 length 'pantaloons', white stockings and 'curled up' slippers, whilst standing next to the Royal Navy Field Gun crews

When did you join:

September 2006

Favourite band pieces

John Miles 'Music' arr. Phillip Sparke

Least favourite piece:

After 20 years 'Barnard Castle' is coming close

Anything else:

I've been plying trombone 33 years, (1 yr as bass trombone with Shrewton Silver Band). I have served with the 17th/21st Lancers as principal trombone for 17 years, (including 2 yrs at the Junior Leaders Regiment: Royal Armoured Corps in Bovington and 1 yr as a pupil at the Royal Military School of music, Kneller Hall, London) On leaving the army in 1993 and joining the TA, I have served with 1 Wessex in Andover, the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Volunteer Band in Portsmouth and am currently serving with the Princess of Wales Royal Regiment in Canterbury. I played solo trombone for the Bouremouth University Big Band (BUBB) 2003 - 2006 whilst attending university, and assist friends as the Stockwood Concert Band in Bristol and the Wiltshire Police Band in Devizes
