Name: Katy Walker

Position: Tuned Percussion/Chair of band committee

Nickname: Triangle girl!

Age: Too Old

How you started banding:

I started with the band to 'help out' at the National Finals in 2005 as a third percussionist - triangle, cymbals and glock! Not having any brass experience and limited percussion experience (from the dim and distant past on the school LP playing glock) this was a bit of a shock to my musical memory. I trained in music from age of 9 on piano and 11 on clarinet reaching grade 8 in both by 18 - but with limited musical exposure from the time of leaving school through to joining the band there was a huge gulf of time and failing memory to catch up on!

Best ever moment:

Coming second at Weymouth December 2007 in the Championship Section of the Wessex, and then winning Best Percussion Section in the Contest overall, with Helen and Colin.
Shrewton, a nationally ranked second section band, beating several First and Championship section bands -playing Paganini! Yippeee!!!!

Worst ever moment:

Being faced with strange timps bass, drum etc on stage in contest - what a nightmare!!!!

When did you join:

Around September 2005

Favourite band pieces

That we play:

Pirates of the Caribbean, Gershwin, Gladiator and Les Miserables

That we don't play:

Music, Hawaii 05, Raiders of the lost ark, James Bond and Copacabana

Least favourite piece:

Amazing Grace, When I fall in Love (because I can't play the glock that fast!), Pavanne and any other piece with no percussion part!

Anything else:

I have really enjoyed getting back to playing again (even if it's not the instruments I learned!)
